I didn’t know about this questionnaire until about two years ago. I took it and let’s just say, I scored high on it. Around that time is when I began shutting myself off from the world. Eventually, I stopped going out with what few friends I did have. Let’s just say it, I stopped doing everything that was good for me with the depression, bipolar and anxiety. Basically, in essence, I became a hermit.

GAD-7 stands for Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, which is a 7-item self-assessment tool used to screen, diagnose, and track the severity of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Each item in the GAD-7 questionnaire corresponds to one of the core symptoms of GAD, such as excessive anxiety, worry, restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and muscle tension.
GAD-7 Scoring
The generalized anxiety disorder-7 is typically scored on a scale from 0 to 3, with 0 corresponding to “not at all” and 3 corresponding to “nearly every day.” It was first developed in 2006 by Dr. Kurt Kroenke. The GAD-7 consists of seven questions that assess symptoms of anxiety such as excessive worry, restlessness, nervousness, and difficulty concentrating. Responses to the questions are scored on a 4-point Likert scale, with scores ranging from 0 to 21. Scores of 5, 10, and 15 are used to indicate mild, moderate, and severe anxiety symptoms, respectively.
PHQ-9 and GAD-7
PHQ-9 stands for Patient Health Questionnaire-9.
PHQ-9 is a 9-item self-report questionnaire designed to measure the presence and severity of depression symptoms, including feelings of sadness, energy levels, sleep patterns, and concentration difficulties. Each item is rated on a scale of 0 to 3 points, with higher scores indicating more severe depression symptoms. The PHQ-9 and GAD-7 are self-assessment tools used by healthcare professionals to screen, diagnose, and track the severity of depression and anxiety symptoms. These tools are short and easy to complete and have been widely used in healthcare settings to assess the presence and severity of depression and anxiety.

GAD-7 PDF is a printable version of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) questionnaire, which is a widely used tool for assessing the presence and severity of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The GAD-7 PDF form can be downloaded and printed from various online sources and is often used as a screening and monitoring tool by healthcare professionals, mental health practitioners, and researchers.
Treatment For GAD
The treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) typically involves a combination of psychotherapy, medication, and lifestyle changes to manage the symptoms. Some of the common treatments for GAD include:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); CBT is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on changing negative thoughts and behaviors that contribute to anxiety. This therapy helps individuals to identify unsuitable thinking patterns and develop new coping and problem-solving strategies.
Medication; Antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and benzodiazepines, are commonly used to treat GAD. These medications can help to reduce anxiety symptoms by altering brain chemistry. I heard that magnesium is supposed to be good for anxiety, so I tried my first dosage a little while ago. In any event, I’ll let you know in the next post whether I feel any difference or not. Also, it’s supposed to help with sleep, that would be nice!
Relaxation techniques; Deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, mindfulness, and meditation are effective relaxation techniques that help reduce stress and anxiety symptoms. Progressive muscle relaxation is a relaxation technique that involves tensing and relaxing specific muscle groups in the body. During this exercise, you are asked to progressively tense a group of muscles for 5-10 seconds and then relax them for 10-15 seconds. This practice is repeated with different muscle groups throughout your body.
Lifestyle changes; Reducing caffeine and alcohol intake, getting adequate sleep, and avoiding tobacco can help to alleviate anxiety symptoms. Some people are more effected by caffeine than others. I never used to be, but that changed within this past year. My body doesn’t like caffeine that much anymore. Also, I know that in order for me to beat this anxiety, I will sometimes have to get out of my comfort zone. Each time I have to leave the house, I’m leaving behind that comfort zone.
Exercise; Regular exercise can help to reduce anxiety and boost mood. Exercise releases endorphins, which help to reduce stress hormones and promote a sense of well-being. I used to exercise everyday by going for long walks around my neighborhood, but that changed when I started to go down hill. I know, I know…why didn’t I keep it up since exercise is good for depression? Basically, that’s when the anxiety started to increase. Accordingly, I became afraid to go outside. Eventually , after I moved, I tried to start walking again, but that only lasted for two days. Compared to how I felt when I was walking before, I was trying to get that same feeling of ‘euphoria’ when I used to walk. Instead, all I got was worrying if people in their houses were staring at me.
Conclusion
GAD can be diagnosed by a trained mental health professional through the use of a clinical interview and assessment using tools such as the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) questionnaire. Treatment for GAD typically involves a combination of therapy and medication, focusing on helping individuals develop coping mechanisms to manage anxiety symptoms, reducing anxiety through relaxation techniques, and teaching effective problem-solving and stress-management skills.
Right now, I am figuratively trying to dig myself out of this hole that I have put myself into. Hopefully, the magnesium will help with the anxiety and I can start to work on the other issues at hand. If I could dial down the anxiety, that would be a huge weight lifted off of me. After taking the magnesium, I don’t feel as shaky, like I normally do. Maybe, I have found the one medicine that will help me in getting rid of the anxiety , along with therapy.
