“I can’t sleep because of anxiety!” I hear that so many times from friends and family who are also dealing with anxiety. That’s up there on complaints of the characteristics of anxiety. I’m dealing with that issue, also. Although, the last 3 nights, I have slept pretty good. Consequently, I don’t no what changed, but I sleep through the whole night.
Altogether, my good streak of sleeping well came to a dead end last night. Same dreams and nightmares are happening again. Something startles me and I wake up about an hour after I fall asleep. At the same time, my eyes fly open and I think I see something that is not supposed to be there. Twice it happened last night. Besides that, I’m really beginning to hate night time. I DON’T want to go to sleep. I don’t know how to fix it. At this point, I can’t talk to my therapist anymore. I had to quit seeing her because of the money. Therefore, I’m considering taking Trazodone again. It really knocks me out.

Anxiety, Can’t Get Out of Bed
Sometimes you have anxiety and can’t get out of bed when you want to. Sleep paralysis. You’re frozen. Subsequently, I have only experienced this a few times and it was awhile back before I was on meds for the anxiety.
Pardon me, I’ve been having intrusive thoughts most of the day and I’m having problems focusing my mind on writing this. I repeat certain phrases over and over in my head, so it’s hard to concentrate on anything else. I’m taking a break.

Goes to show you that anxiety can strike at any time, even with me just sitting here, typing away. Anyway, I was writing about how sometimes you’re just paralyzed from the anxiety and you can’t get out of bed. I have the radio on during the night so I don’t get anxious over every little sound that I hear. Also, sometimes it helps me to fall asleep.
Anxiety Can’t Sleep for Days
I wonder what is the longest period that a person hasn’t slept. If you have anxiety and you haven’t slept for days. sooner or later your body (and mind) is going to give in. At length, I know it follows a cycle- you sleep for one or two nights, then you don’t for several days. Then you’re back to sleeping one or so days.
I don’t sleep for several days because of the dreams I’m having when I do sleep. When it comes time for the sun to set , my anxiety sky rocket’s. If I do sleep, I wake up every hour or so. That’s not getting a good night’s sleep. Therefore, if I need to take more medicine, I will, but I need something that is going to knock me out.
Exhausted But Can’t Sleep Anxiety
If you are exhausted but can’t sleep because of anxiety, try to distract yourself. I’ve found that it helps to listen to my favorite music, read a good book (they say reading helps making you sleepy), Subsequently, even though you’re exhausted, only try to fall asleep when you feel yourself completely give out. Sooner or later your body isn’t going to be able to function and you will fall asleep. Believe me, you’ll sleep for a long time. Correspondingly, kind of like when you’re sick and your body is giving the bug everything it has. A lot of people sleep more when they’re sick.
Your body can’t go on autopilot forever. It NEEDS time to rest, so eventually you’ll just collapse and fall asleep. I know that sleep is desirable, but you should try to be on a consistent schedule. Although, being in the same boat as you, it’s very difficult to do because of the anxiety.
Panicking Because I Can’t Sleep
Panicking because you can’t sleep is one of the worst feelings to experience. It’s because you’re trying to hard to fall asleep. You can’t force it. Sleep is supposed to come naturally. I know, sometimes you just lay there thinking about all the bad things that happened that day. Or, maybe you’re even worried about what might happen tomorrow. Instead, try to focus on the positive things that happened (or going to happen). I know this is a difficult task to do when you’re constantly anxious, but it really does work.
It’s a cycle that feeds off of one another- not sleeping creates panic. Then, in return, the panicking causes you not to sleep. So, if at all cost, try your hardest not to panic. Sleep has to come sooner or later.

Conclusion
If you can’t sleep because of anxiety, you’re definitely not alone. There are lots of other people who just can’t sleep (or only get very little sleep). Although, sometimes if you try to hard to fall asleep, that makes it even worse. My doctor told me to try to fall asleep when you’re starting to get tired. Don’t force it. You’re not doing yourself a service. In all honesty, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
Also, my doctor put me on several meds to aid with the sleep. Again, sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. I would really like to get put back on Trazodone (the wonder drug for sleep). Notwithstanding, it puts you to sleep really fast and you stay asleep till you wake up the next morning.
Well, I’m out of here. I hope this post has helped you at least a little bit. I bid you a farewell. Until next time…
