What is an excellent med to take to stop hearing voices? Abilify, Lithium, Aripiprazole, Seroquel and finally Risperdal are just a few well known psychotherapeutic drugs for schizophrenia. I tried Seroquel, but had to stop because I was having an allergic reaction to it (a rash). At any rate, I was prescribed Lithium for a long time. Due to me getting diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, I had to stop it because it was making my movements worse. Also, I was briefly on Abilify that did nothing for me. I’ve never been on Aripiprazole or Risperdal.
Abilify
Abilify is the brand name of a medication called aripiprazole. It is an atypical antipsychotic medication that is used to treat a range of psychiatric conditions, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression. Abilify works by acting on certain neurotransmitters in the brain, including dopamine and serotonin, to help regulate their levels and balance brain chemistry. It is thought to help reduce the severity of symptoms associated with these psychiatric conditions, such as hallucinations, delusions, and mood swings.
Psychosis?
Abilify (aripiprazole) is a medication that is commonly used to treat psychosis, including symptoms associated with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. However, in some cases, Abilify can actually cause or worsen certain psychiatric symptoms, including psychosis.
According to prescribing information, Abilify carries a risk of causing or worsening certain psychiatric symptoms, such as hallucinations, delusions, and mania. These symptoms may occur in people who have never experienced them before or may worsen in people who have previously experienced them. In rare cases, Abilify may also cause a condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome, which can cause severe muscle stiffness, fever, and other symptoms similar to psychosis.
Cause Hallucinations?
In rare cases, Abilify can actually cause hallucinations as a side effect. According to prescribing information, hallucinations are listed as a potential side effect of Abilify, although they are generally considered to be uncommon. Other potential psychiatric side effects of Abilify include agitation, anxiety, depression, and confusion.
Concentration
The appropriate concentration of Abilify (aripiprazole) for schizophrenia will depend on individual factors such as the severity of the symptoms, other medications being taken, age, weight, and overall health.
According to prescribing information, the usual starting dose of Abilify for schizophrenia in adults is 10-15 mg per day. However, some people may need a lower starting dose, such as 2-5 mg per day. The dose can also be adjusted gradually over time as needed to manage symptoms and minimize side effects. The maximum recommended daily dose is 30 mg per day.
Abilify Injection Reviews
The injectable version of Abilify (aripiprazole) is called Abilify Maintena. It is used as a long-acting, once-monthly treatment option for adults with schizophrenia.
The reviews for Abilify Maintena are generally positive, with many people reporting that it helps to reduce their symptoms, such as hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking. Some people appreciate the convenience of a once-monthly injection compared to taking a daily oral medication. It is often recommended for people who have had success with the oral version of Abilify but struggle with adherence to the daily regimen.
However, as with all medications, there are potential side effects associated with Abilify Maintena. These can include weight gain, sleepiness, and restlessness. Some people may also experience injection site reactions, such as pain or swelling at the site of injection.
Side Effects
Abilify can cause side effects, which can range from mild to severe. Some of the common side effects of Abilify include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, and weight gain. It can also cause some less common but more severe side effects, such as tardive dyskinesia (a movement disorder), neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a rare but potentially life-threatening condition), and akathisia (a feeling of restlessness or an inability to sit still).
Lithium For Schizo–phrenia?
Yes, lithium can be used as a treatment for schizophrenia, although it is not typically considered to be a first-line treatment option.
Lithium is primarily used as a mood stabilizer for bipolar disorder, but it can also be helpful for some people with schizophrenia, in particular, those who experience prominent affective symptoms, such as mood swings or depression.
When used for schizophrenia, lithium is typically used in combination with other antipsychotic medications and may be helpful in reducing the severity and frequency of symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions.
Side Effects
It is important to note that lithium can cause side effects, which can include hand tremors, increased thirst and urination, and gastrointestinal upset.
Aripiprazole
Aripiprazole is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called atypical antipsychotics. It helps to stabilize imbalanced chemicals in the brain, which can reduce the severity of symptoms related to these mental health conditions.
Side Effects
Some of the common side effects of aripiprazole include nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, restlessness, and insomnia. In some cases, it may cause more serious side effects, such as changes in blood sugar levels, muscle stiffness, fever, and seizures.

Seroquel (diagnosis)
Seroquel is a prescription medication that belongs to a class of drugs called atypical antipsychotics. It is primarily used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder.
Seroquel works by affecting certain brain chemicals, including dopamine and serotonin. It helps to stabilize imbalanced chemicals in the brain, which can reduce the severity of symptoms related to these mental health conditions.
Side Effects
Some of the common side effects of Seroquel include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, weight gain, and constipation. In some cases, it may cause more serious side effects, such as changes in blood sugar levels, muscle stiffness, fever, and seizures.
Risperdal
Risperidone works by affecting certain brain chemicals, including dopamine and serotonin. It helps to stabilize imbalanced chemicals in the brain, which can reduce the severity of symptoms related to these mental health conditions.
Side Effects
Some of the common side effects of risperidone include drowsiness, dizziness, weight gain, and constipation. In some cases, it may cause more serious side effects, such as changes in blood sugar levels, muscle stiffness, fever, and seizures. It is important to take risperidone exactly as prescribed by a healthcare professional and to follow up with regular monitoring appointments to ensure that it is working properly and safely. Individuals should also inform their healthcare professional of any other medications they are taking, including over-the-counter medications and supplements, to avoid any potential drug interactions.
Can Antipsychotics Cause Depression?
In some cases, antipsychotics can cause or worsen depression as a side effect. The exact way that antipsychotics can contribute to depression is not well understood. However, some researchers believe that the medication may alter the levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain, which can contribute to mood changes and depression.
Other factors that can contribute to depression in people taking antipsychotics include changes in sleep patterns, weight gain, and a feeling of lethargy or lack of motivation that can come with taking the medication.
Conclusion
By comparison, these antipsychotic meds are some of the most used in the world. I will have to say, I liked being on Lithium because it had few side effects. The only major one is that you were CONSTANTLY thirsty. Oh, and I almost forgot, You hade to have blood drawn every so often to make sure you were in the parameters of a healthy level. Although, the other meds, Abilify, Aripiprazole, Seroquel and finally Risperdal, are also good for the treatment of delusions (schizophrenia).
